From the <\/span>November 1, 2025<\/b>, a new provision of the draft law enters into force <\/span>Ministry of National Economy and Finance<\/b> for the Capital Market, which brings significant changes to the way electronic payments are made.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What does the new regulation provide?<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

According to the provision, <\/span>all legal entities<\/b>, including the <\/span>electronic stores (e-shops)<\/b>, are required to accept payments through <\/span>the IRIS direct payment system<\/b>. The regulation concerns transactions with consumers acting <\/span>outside the scope of professional or business activity<\/b>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This means that every business \u2013 physical or electronic \u2013 must <\/span>offers mandatory<\/b> the IRIS system as a payment option, alongside other payment methods such as cards or cash.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What is the IRIS system?<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

The <\/span>IRIS Payments<\/b> is a direct payment system supported by Greek banks. It enables consumers to make payments <\/span>in real time<\/b>, through their mobile banking app, <\/span>without using a card or IBAN<\/b>, simply with your mobile number or by scanning a QR code.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Payment is easy: the consumer passes their mobile phone over the POS or scans the QR code, and the transaction is completed. <\/span>in a few seconds<\/b>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What should businesses do?<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

To comply with the new framework, businesses must take the following measures:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Direct communication with the POS or ePOS provider
    \n<\/b><\/b>Request information about IRIS payment support and proceed to <\/span>software upgrade<\/b> of your terminal devices. It is noted that <\/span>no equipment change required<\/b>, but only updating the existing software.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Integrating IRIS into your e-shop<\/b>
    \n<\/b>Contact your e-shop's technical team or platform provider (Magento, WooCommerce, Shopify, etc.) to add IRIS payment functionality to your <\/span>checkout<\/b>. This feature should also be available for <\/span>online shopping<\/b> but also for <\/span>physical points of sale (if any).<\/b><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Staff and customer information<\/b>
    \n<\/b>Train your staff on the use of the new feature and inform your customers about the convenience and security of IRIS payments.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
